I Wonder if Waves Feel a Sense of Kinship According to How They Were Formed
The first thing I wrote in 2024 was a confluence of conversations. Presented alongside Dionne Lee’s February/March 2024 solo show at Bibeau Krueger Gallery (NYC), the poem was written foremost in dialogue with Lee’s then-in-progress video installation, Site Unfolding. “I Wonder if Waves Feel a Sense of Kinship According to How They were Formed,” uses lines relating to water from books of poetry written by contemporary poets in and about the U.S. Southwest. Sampled poets include: Eduardo C. Corral, Natalie Diaz, Dolores Dorantes, Saretta Morgan, Roger Reeves, Brandon Shimoda, Javier Zamora, and Ofelia Zepeda.
“I Wonder if Waves Feel a Sense of Kinship According to How They Were Formed,” was republished by the Academy of American Poets in December 2024.
